Darker Places

Who are they

Darker Places is a post‑punk/darkwave trio from Whittier, CA, crafting brooding, synth‑driven tracks built for late‑night atmospheres and alternative dance floors. Their sound blends the shadowy pulse of classic ’80s darkwave with a modern, cinematic edge—anchored by driving basslines, hypnotic rhythms, and immersive synth textures.

Formed in 2019 and fully realized in 2023, the band has become a staple of the SoCal dark alternative circuit. They have performed at iconic venues like The Whisky A Go Go and Bar Sinister, sharing the stage with a diverse range of acts including Fevr, Calaverx, Warsaw Pact, and Dark Chisme. Within these lineups, Darker Places brings a signature blend of post-punk grit and traditional goth atmosphere.

Their latest release, “Bela’s Revenge,” is a darkwave/post‑punk mashup inspired by the legacy of Bauhaus and She Wants Revenge. Blending classic goth atmosphere with a modern, danceable pulse, the track is specifically designed for late‑night sets, goth nights, and dark alternative playlists. With upcoming singles “Salem” and “Static Hour,” Darker Places continues to deliver music made for dark rooms and DJs seeking tracks with emotional weight and a haunting, rhythmic drive.

Alux Delint

Synths, Effects, Atmospheres

Not built for the crowd. He moves through frequencies like questions through dark air—restless, curious, precise. A lone architect of echo and pulse. He programs the silence between the screams.

Alux is the atmosphere architect, influenced by Tom Furse (The Horrors), Chris Corner (IAMX), and Luis Vasquez (The Soft Moon). Through modulated vocals, dusty synths, and warped textures, he gives the band its ghostly glow.

Alex Maciel

Vocals, Bass, Primary Lyricist

Ink and shadows carve the path. Hymns for the haunted. A bassline like a pulse beneath the graveyard dirt. Words stitched from nightmares. The heartbeat of the sound, the weight of the words. A voice from the void. He’s kept the flame lit in silence and storm—fueled by love, haunted by purpose. This is his creation, and it lives because he willed it to.

Alex channels the stoic charisma of Jim Morrison and Dave Gahan, weaving deep, spellbound vocals with Peter Hook-style basslines that carry both rhythm and melody.

Rick Martinez

Guitar, Tracking / Mixing / Mastering

Strings learned in the chaos, melodies born in the static. A child played for ghosts and drunks, now a man plays for echoes and shadows. Twenty-one chords for a memory, six strings for the soul. Recording ghosts onto tape, chasing frequencies in a room too small for sound. A lifetime for the noise and a heart that never forgets.

Rick draws on Johnny Marr’s textured layering and Lennon’s emotive edge—his guitar work weaves between cinematic shimmer and angular post-punk rhythms.

Static Hour

Darker Places

"Static Hour” opens with an eerie sci-fi atmosphere before driving into a fast-moving darkwave/post-punk pulse of arpeggiated synths, dance-driven drums, reverb claps, and angular guitars. Clear melodic vocals and haunting cinematic textures create a cold yet uplifting descent beyond time and reality.
